Bay of Pigs Museum

Brigade 2506 (Brigada Asalto 2506) was the name given to a CIA-sponsored group of Cuban exiles formed in 1960 to attempt the military overthrow of the Cuban government headed by Fidel Castro. It carried out the abortive Bay of Pigs Invasion landings in Cuba on 17 April 1961.

About 1,334 men traveled on a seaborne force from Guatemala, of which about 1,297 actually landed in Cuba, plus an additional 177 airborne paratroops. An estimated 114 drowned or were killed in action, and 1,183 were captured, tried and imprisoned. Private sympathizers in the United States eventually negotiated to give $53 million worth of food and medicine in exchange for release and repatriation of Brigade prisoners to Miami starting on 23 December 1962. On 29 December 1962, President John F. Kennedy hosted a ‘welcome back’ ceremony for captured Brigade 2506 veterans at the Orange Bowl in Miami. Some of its members have gone on to found the Brigade 2506 Veteran’s Association which controls the Bay of Pigs Museum & Library in Little Havana.

  1. Does anyone remember the Little Havana bank set up by and for the CIA to infiltrate Castro and Cuba. It was controlled by the Department of Defense out of Detroit Michigan and controlled through Mac Don Lumber in Orlando Florida across from the train station, Track One & Two, by the CIA and Senator Smathers and others as G2 and Naval Intelligence that had offices in the Flagler DuPont Building where Smathers also had his offices. Edward Ball out of Jacksonville of the DuPont family was also involved with a host of others including you know who, George H.W.Bush who was using the Cuban invasion success as his platform into politics as did Teddy Roosevelt did some sixty years earlier. What will you know tomorrow?

    • RJ,

The guys at the Bay of Pigs Museum discuss a few of these points and echo your sentiment… As you probably already know, some documents are still classified, and several others have only recently become declassified…
I know the veterans here would probably appreciate talking to you about it all. Let me know if you’re ever in the area so I can set up a chat with you and them if you’d ever like to do so…
      Thanks!

  2. Step by step, Fidel is dead. Screw that Commie SOB after stabbing us in the back after the United States and Cuban’s supported his original actions to bring free and open elections to Cuban’s. He never planned on giving up power to the Cuban people. Things are changing and changing fast. Soon! Peanuts in a bag.
